David Simmons is the professor of tourism. He has made a significant contribution to tourism development in New Zealand and around the world. In 2015 he was elected as a fellow to the International Academy for the Study of Tourism and chairs the EarthCheck Global Research Institute that provides science and benchmarking for evidencing pathways to sustainable tourism.  David has been a popular speaker at past BBANZ conferences.

Growing the Future of B&Bs - A Domestic Perspective 

Chris RobertsChris Roberts, Chief Executive, Tourism Industry Aotearoa

Chris Roberts joined TIA as Chief Executive in July 2014. Prior to that he was a General Manager at Tourism New Zealand. Earlier in his career he worked as a journalist and at Parliament, including three years with the Minister of Tourism.  As well as heading up TIA, the peak body for New Zealand’s tourism industry, Chris is a trustee of the Hospitality Training Trust, on the Board of Ngā Haerenga New Zealand Cycle Trails, on the Interim Establishment Board for the Services Workforce Development Council, and is a member of  the Tourism Infrastructure Fund Panel, the Working Group on Responsible Camping, the Tourism Futures Taskforce Advisory Group, the Industry Advisory Group for Go With, ATEED’s Industry Leaders Advisory Panel, and the Queenstown Mayoral Tourism Taskforce.
