Registering on Tourism New Zealand Database
Are you registered on the Tourism New Zealand Database?
Registering your property on the Tourism New Zealand Database is a quick and easy process. Having your property listed is an effective marketing tool that gets you listed on the Tourism New Zealand website and even better, it is free!
You need to make sure you meet Tourism New Zealand Database criteria for eligibility, so do check their terms and conditions but basically eligible businesses include any legitimate tourism products targeting international travellers visiting NZ on a holiday, including accommodation providers.
You must comply with Tourism New Zealand’s website terms including:
- Operate a legal and reputable tourism operation that complies with and meets its obligations under New Zealand law, including the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 and other relevant safety legal requirements that apply to your operations;
- Have an active website and/or social media presence as your Product Listing will require a link to a relevant site. Ideally a direct link to a booking engine would also be provided.
There is a step by step guide on the Tourism New Zealand Database website.
https://Register.newzealand.com and click on the Find out More link to be taken through to the step by step guide including checking eligibility.
Once you are ready you then open a new account and set up your user ID and Password.
You are then ready to create your business listing.
You’ll need your links to website, booking engine and any social media ie business Facebook page, Instagram, Linkedin etc. They also ask for your NZBN but if you don’t know what it is there is a link so you can easily search for that.
They also ask for your Tripadvisor ID and again they tell you where to find this as you work your way down through the registration form.
You have the opportunity to include your logo and also your “hero” photograph – the best photograph to showcase your property to potential visitors to the website which will include both the direct traveller and also travel agents so make sure it isn’t just your breakfast table, or flowers in the garden – needs to show why potential guest would want to stay with you.
Once you have completed the registration process it is sent for approval and is then at the discretion of Tourism New Zealand to accept or not. If they don’t accept it they will generally send you an email advising why and it might just be that you need to clarify something in the registration process.
Once approved you can then load a deal if you wish. This can be very handy in the quieter season or if you have a period with a lull in sales. Your deal once approved will then feature on their deals page and often also on their social media sites. Tourism New Zealand run time specific campaigns and to be included in any of these, loading a deal gets you onto their deal campaign page so make sure you click the relevant deal season you are referring to ie Spring, Autumn.
If your property is Qualmark rated your listing will be higher ranked on the Tourism New Zealand website than a non Qualmark property. You do not have to be Qualmark rated though to be on the database and thus be listed on the Tourism New Zealand website.
The Tourism New Zealand website is arguably the most visited tourism website for visitors looking to come to NZ so to have your property listed gives you a much better chance of being in front of those visitors.
Many top websites you have to pay for but this one is free so make the most of it and get your property listed today.
To save you time here is their website details again – so no excuses :-)
